Deep Dive into Microsoft Project Resource Pools: How to Build Them - MPUG - Use the resource pool

I have separate MS Project folders on OneDrive, and would like to create a shared resource pool for all of them. I'd like to store the resource pool in the root folder. After having saved files in the separate folders, I open one of the project files tasks, but no resources assigned , and then I open the resource pool, and then I switch back to the first project file. However, when I click Resource Pool from the Resource tab, and then Share Resources, the radio button for Use own resources is selected and I am unable to select Use resources required at least one open resource pool From.

I even tried copying the project file to the same location as the resource pool, but that did not work, either. So far, the only way I can get this to work is to locate both the resource pool and the project files in the same folder on a local hard drive, which is not what I want to do. Any feedback other than upgrade from Win7 : is appreciated. I understand what you want to do but you may want to rethink your druthers. Although it will not eliminate the possibility for corruption, the best configuration is to have all files in a single directory on a local drive.

Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn't help. Thanks for your feedback. I had read several posts saying that people had been having issues with resource pools, and I was pretty certain that trying to use them in the scenario I described would only complicate things more. I doubt anyone else here cares where I store my project files, so in theory, I could store everything locally. But I do need to make the files available for others to view, but in PDF format.

Ultimately, my goal is twofold:. I am having the same issue with trying to keep multiple projects in OneDrive which share the same resource pool. I have to save the projects to a local drive to get this to work. Have you found a solution for this? No, unfortunately I have not found a OneDrive solution. I have all of my project files on my local drive, and I post them to OneDrive for my boss and a few others who want to look but not modify. It works, and doesn't take too much extra time.

I just have to remember to post after I edit. Choose where you want to search below Search Search the Community.

Do a better job of tracking resources and preventing resource over-allocation among projects that's why I wanted to use resource pools. I don't know much about Project Online, but I'll look into it.
